...for all Your Desktop Publishing Needs...  The Founder  Your Type Too was founded by Malcolm Lowe in 1986. The company evolved from his experiences with computers and production of printed documents.  Malcolm Lowe is originally from the United Kingdom (Great Britain). He was born in a small industrial town, Oldham, in the north of England, just seven miles from Manchester a noted inland port, 30 miles from the ocean. Oldham is a town which experienced tremendous growth during the industrial revolution. In the heyday of the cotton industry around 400 cotton mills could be seen on the skyline. The chimneys for each of the mills were 200 feet or more tall, and spewed thick, black smoke. This led to some of the worst smogs in the industrial world during the middle part of the 20th century. These were rectified thanks to the efforts of the Public Health Department and the Clean Air Act of 1956.  Malcolm was educated at the local technical high school, where he excelled in subjects such as technical drawing and English language. From there he went on to train as an Environmental Health Officer, completing the four year course of study on schedule and without difficulty. The knowledge gained during those four years has proved invaluable during his years as a desktop publisher.  His career in desktop publishing began when, in 1980, he decided to leave England to travel and broaden his horizons. After a year of travelling the globe during which he visited California, he returned to the USA and eventually made his home in the Bay Area. There, his already well developed interest in computers was furthered by attending a San Francisco computer user group where he soon became a guru. One of the tasks he performed was the production of the group's newsletter, which gave him many of the traditional typesetting skills including paste-up. Using his skills in programming (and the assistance of another member) a program was devised that partially automated the process.

Already excellent graphics skills were utilized along with a love of language to carry this former hobby into the business world. In 1986 Your Type Too was founded and has continued to thrive. His skills have extended from page layout and graphics, to design of pages for the World Wide Web, from paste up to computer based prepress and from building and setting up computers to troubleshooting and teaching others how to use programs.  Home  Page  Top of File
